GONG XI FA CAI!

The time of the year to get dolled up in new clothes, to give Kum to people and get Ang Bao in return, to wish everyone 'happy birthday' yesterday, to buy loads and loads of pineapple tarts and put up Ang Ang decor in the house.

And of course, the time of the year to catch the Hua Yi Festival! I must say, the schedule and programmes for this year's festival is more grand than I have ever remembered it to be - More theatrical splendours and more haps music acts!

Managed to catch 2 theatre performances this year..

1) 上海之夜
This was quite a decent local production, 苏永康 was impeccable, Emma Yong was just stunning, but Mindee Ong fell short.....quite far away. At times, I was wondering why her since the score required someone with a very large range and she obviously was not comfortable in such a role.

Other than that, the musical was entertaining and costumes were excellent, but I'm not too sure if I'll watch it again.

Oh, another find was that Yutaki Ong (from dragonfly) was there as well! as one of the ensemble..amazing! Didn't know he was a choreographer or a stage actor...cool!

2) 水浒传

I really did like this play...even though, it was about 3 hrs long, a tad long drawn for my liking. There was excellent acting here, from all the actors/actresses involved and I loved the set! So simple and yet so elaborate...really using everything, lights, sounds, imaging, colours..woohoo!!

The play itself was cool! There was comic relief, there were gripping moments, there was moments where u just sat and watched as the brilliance in the actors presented itself.

I'm glad I caught this...I am...=)
